Find cheap late model XJS with clean body and interior, add large displacement straight six engine bolted to manual transmission, receive ultimate politically incorrect daily driver.

Kinja'd!!!

Engine options:

Jaguar AJ6 (the logical choice)

BMW M5x (most readily available where I live, sensibly reliable but limited maximum displacement)

BMW S38B38 (somewhat common, not exactly cheap)

Mercedes M104 (Similar to M5x, less common, can be found AMG tuned with ~3.6L)

Opel C30SE (very oversquare bore/stroke ratio, up to 4.0L possible, fairly cheap, often suffers from waterpump failure)

Toyota JZ (Bulletproof, not very common, limited max displacement)

Toyota FZ (see JZ, but bigger)

Nissan RB (lol nope, way too small)

Nissan TB (see Toyota FZ, all of the displacement, impossible to find with the mandatory DOHC heads)

GM LL8 Atlas (good size, reliable, can be found in europe, somehow less torque than the AJ6 despite being bigger and newer)

Ford Barra I6 (has the size, has a turbo, but only in Austria)

TVR Speed Six (the greatest thing of all time ever, lol cost, reliability can be improved through aftermarket parts)

Did I miss any?

You’re missing the 5.9 litre option.

I plan on doing this at some point. But I will keep the V12.

With the RB though there’s soon many aftermarket iptions , plus huge turbos!

A TVR I6 would be damn cool though.

Kinda odd choice, but you could use the supercharged I6 from the older DB7s. It’s the Jag block, but with a tweaked head and a blower. A little less displacement, but it makes up for it with positive (displacement) thinking.

Plus, the DB7 is really just a warmed up XJS anyway, so it’d probably slot in.

I’m not actually joking. People do this. The V12 uses the same head bolt pattern. Flip an AJ6 head around and you’ve got a DOHC V12.

The AJ6 XJS is one of my favorite cars ever.

Add the crankshaft of the 4.0, and we have the perfect engine.

If it’s cams and displacement you want, I’d be leaning towards a Ford 4.6 V8. Preferably a DOHC version out of a Lincoln, or possibly the Mach 1 Mustang version, or even one of the supercharged SVT versions.

Or there’s always GM’s 4.2 DOHC I6. Although their isn’t much in the way of aftermarket support for engine swaps.

If I wanted cams and displacement I’d get a Mercedes M275. But I don’t. I want a straight six with cams, valves and displacement because that is the holy british way.

Very well then. If you must have cylinders in an orderly row instead of splayed willy-nilly over the engine compartment, then I think you should reconsider the ford 4.9.

Kinja'd!!!

I know it’s not DOHC, but look at that marvelous triumvirate of Weber carburetors.
